Powder coating with unique properties - polyurethane powder coating

Powder coating is a solid powder synthetic resin coating composed of solid resin, pigments, fillers, and additives. Unlike ordinary solvent based coatings and water-based coatings, its dispersion medium is not solvent and water, but air. It has the characteristics of solvent-free pollution, 100% film formation, and low energy consumption.

Powder coatings exist in the form of fine powders. Although there are not as many varieties as solvent based coatings, there are also many polymer resins that can be used as powder coatings. It can be generally divided into two categories: thermosetting and thermoplastic. Among them, thermosetting polyester powder coatings have unique properties compared to other types of powder coatings, and can be applied to multiple fields. Their proportion in powder coatings is increasing, and they are developing into the mainstream of powder coatings.

Polyurethane powder coating has excellent weather resistance, physical and mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance. The coating is bright and full, wear-resistant, scratch resistant, solvent resistant, with good leveling and strong adhesion. In addition, due to the polar functional groups of polyester resin, its powder coating rate is higher than that of epoxy resin, and it is less prone to yellowing during baking. The paint film is full and the color is light, making it very decorative.

Compared with other types of powder coatings, polyurethane powder coatings have the following characteristics:

1. When the melt flow is normal, the melt viscosity is low, especially the sealing agent does not undergo any chemical reaction before unsealing, which allows sufficient leveling time for the powder coating and good coating leveling performance. The implementation of the internally enclosed urea diketone curing agent technology has resulted in almost zero air pollution from this powder coating.

2. Good adhesion to the coated material, no need for primer.

3. The range of coating formulation is wide, and coatings with different performance requirements and curing speeds can be formulated.

4. The physical and mechanical properties as well as chemical resistance of the coating film are good.

In today's increasingly strict environmental protection environment, the main factor driving the rapid development of polyurethane powder coatings is its almost zero content of volatile organic chemicals (VOCs), which makes it a better coating choice among environmentally friendly alternatives in various fields and thus drives the overall consumption growth of the polyurethane coating market. Polyurethane powder coating is generally used in the field of outdoor furniture, and its largest market is in the ordinary metal surface coating industry, accounting for about 50% of the entire market share. Due to the fact that most home appliance coating companies prioritize smooth coating effects, the application of polyurethane powder coatings in household equipment is very common. In Europe, many aluminum alloy materials used in construction are coated with polyurethane powder coating, which has the advantage of achieving a gloss retention rate of 65% to 85% in the next 5 to 7 years, and still reaching 50% to 65% in 10 years. After 10 years, the coating thickness will only decrease by 2-3 μ m; m。 In addition, it can be applied in fields such as automobiles, motorcycles, and instrument casings.
