Yongji Industry: Regarding the Coating Issues of Metal Powder Coatings

Coating of Metal Powder Coatings

Metal powder coating refers to various powder coatings containing metal pigments such as copper gold powder, silver aluminum powder, etc.

Metal powder coatings with special characteristics are very suitable for spraying indoor and outdoor objects such as furniture, jewelry, and cars due to their ability to display a bright and luxurious decorative effect. The coating requirements also have special characteristics that are different from other types of powder coatings.

(1) Friction spray guns are generally not suitable for spraying metal powder coatings. Static spray guns should be used for painting. Due to the presence of metallic pigments in this type of product, it is necessary to ensure good grounding of the system when using an electrostatic gun for construction. At the same time, lower electrostatic voltage and powder output should be set to prevent sparking during spraying. The effect of forming a coating is closely related to the setting, quality, or brand of the spray gun. After long-term spraying, a large amount of metal powder may accumulate at the discharge needle of the spray gun, and the construction worker needs to clean the discharge needle regularly.

(2) In most cases, due to the large error of metal powder coatings, we do not recommend using a gloss meter to measure the gloss of the metal appearance coating, and only use visual comparison method to determine whether it is consistent with the standard sample.

(3) The powder produced by dry mixing method may experience separation during spraying and recycling, which may result in inconsistent appearance of the coating and color cast. It is recommended that the ratio of recycled powder to new powder be at least 1:4. If powder coatings manufactured using adhesive fixation method have a relatively fixed ratio between metal pigments and powder particles, the recycled powder can be completely reused.

(4) Spraying a gloss layer on top of a metal powder coating has the following advantages: enhancing the resistance of the metal powder coating; Enhance the aesthetic effect of metal powder coating; Thoroughly solve the erasability of metal pigments; Improve the weather resistance of metal powder coating.

(5) For the same product, try to use the same batch of metal powder coating to avoid color difference between powder coating batches.

(6) Metal powder coatings should maintain stable spraying conditions as much as possible. Using the same set of spraying equipment and parameters such as voltage and air pressure; Try to keep the distance between the spray gun and the workpiece constant and maintain the stability of the film thickness as much as possible; Ensure that the powder coating has fully fluidized before spraying.

(7) When spraying metal powder coatings, try to lower the baking temperature as much as possible, because metal pigments can easily lose their metallic luster at high temperatures.
